Hounds Fall to Neumann in Non-Conference Action

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team continued its season-long five-match road trip Monday in a non-conference match at Neumann University, falling to the Knights 5-0.

The Greyhounds had an early opportunity with junior forward Christina Duddy getting in behind the goalie but her shot was stopped by a defender in the sixth minute. Junior forward Kyla Rodrigues put two more shots on goal in the 10th minute while senior midfielder Rebecca Hamel got a shot on the cage a minute later.

However, Neumann would get on the scoreboard on a penalty stroke in the 13th minute, and the Knights added another tally in the 17th minute. Hamel and junior forward Erin Tiwold put shots on goal to try and close the gap but Neumann added two more goals for a 4-0 lead in the 30th minute. Duddy and Tiwold put shots on goal in the final two minutes of the first half but the Greyhounds were unable to get anything past Neumann goalie Becca Wallace.

Neumann netted the lone goal of the second half in the 49th minute, and the Knights had a 16-15 edge in shots throughout the contest. Moravian did have a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners Monday but was unable to capitalize.

Junior goalie Megan Kanyuk made nine saves for the Hounds. Kanyuk now has 142 saves in her career, moving into a tie for eighth in school history.

Moravian will continue its road trip on Wednesday, September 23 in a non-conference match at King's College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
