Seven Greyhounds Named to NFHCA DIII National Academic Squad

GLEN ALLEN, Va. --- Seven student-athletes from the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA.

Moravian was also one of 124 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an ZAG Field Hockey /NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by all seven of their Landmark Conference rivals - The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Elizabethtown College, Goucher College, Juniata College, The University of Scranton and Susquehanna University.

"I am very pleased that our team, for the 14th straight year, received the NFHCA Academic Team award," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "Our student-athletes put a lot of time and effort into their studies and it is nice for them to get recognized for their accomplishments. It certainly makes my job easier when I don't have to worry about their work in the classroom."

Senior Rebecca Hamel and Ely Vazquez, juniors Christina Duddy, Kyla Rodrigues and Erin Tiwold, sophomore Katie Morrison and freshman Soriana Salloum represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 1,350 NCAA Division III players from 132 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Hamel is a four-year recipient of the honor.

Tiwold led the group scoring nine goals and five assists while Hamel, who was on the NFHCA Honors of Distinction list, added two goals and two assists. Duddy netted three goals and two assists for Moravian while Rodrigues, who was also on the NFHCA Honors of Distinction list, had three goals and six assists.

"The individuals that have been selected to the NFHCA academic squad are a special group," commented Endler. "They are tackling a rigorous academic curriculum and are still able to perform at a high level on the field. The upperclassmen led the way with Becca achieving this honor four years in a row and Christina, Kyla, and Erin three years running. I am especially happy for senior Ely Vazquez who worked her way to achieve this honor for the first time in her final year."
