BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College senior Rebecca Hamel have been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV NCAA Division III At-Large First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The At-Large team consists of student-athletes that compete on beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.

By making the All-District First Team, Hamel is now on the national ballot to try for CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades that will be announced on Tuesday, June 7. Moravian has had 43 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans®.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Beginning in 2011-12, the program is made up of four levels – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division (NAIA, Canadian colleges and junior colleges). District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania.

"I am extremely proud that Rebecca is being recognized for her academic achievements," commented Head Coach Amy Endler. "To be honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honoree is something that no other field hockey player from Moravian has ever accomplished. I know how hard Rebecca worked over the past four years to maintain her 4.0 GPA in Physics and I couldn't be happier for her. She has represented our program extremely well and set an example for the underclassmen to follow."

Hamel added two goals and two assists for the Greyhounds while starting in all 18 games for Moravian this season. During her career, Hamel was a four-time member of the ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Scholars of Distinction and the NFHCA Division III Academic Squad, and she was a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
