BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team won its regular season finale at Goucher College last Saturday and got the help that it needed from The Catholic University of America to earn a trip to the postseason.
The Greyhounds, who are 9-4-2 overall and were 3-3-1 in the Landmark Conference regular season, are the fourth seed in the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament and will travel to top seed The University of Scranton for a semifinal match on Tuesday, October 30 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Royals defeated the Hounds, 2-0, on John Makuvek Field on October 6 when the squads met in the regular season.
Fifth-year Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk has the Blue and Grey in the postseason for third time in four years after reaching the Landmark Conference Championship match in 2016 and the semifinals in 2015. Six of the squad's nine victories this fall are by shutout while three contests have gone to double overtime where the Greyhounds are 0-1-2.
Moravian has had 14 different players score goals with freshman forward Megan Chesney netting a team-leading seven goals to go with four assists. Senior forward Gabby Stelzmiller has added five goals and a team-high 10 assists to become the 11th player in school history to reach 50 career points while sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Sugarman has four goals after a hat trick versus Marywood University. Senior midfielders Shae Duka and Aimee Manley each have four goals with Manley adding two assists and Duka making one assist. Sophomore forward Oonagh Breen has netted three goals while junior defender Paige Weiss, sophomore midfielder Val Monaco and freshman midfielder Alexa Brown have all scored two goals with Monaco adding an assist.
Junior midfielder Juliana Caranci and freshman midfielder Morgan Covart each have contributed a goal with Covart adding two helpers and Caranci with one assist. Sophomore defender Sara Cassel, junior defender Emma Blades, sophomore forward Cat Cole and have each found the back of the goal once while freshman forward Charlotte Smith has three assists and sophomore defender Lexi Peploe has two assists.
Sophomore goalie Siobhan O'Sullivan-Evangelista has posted a 0.52 GAA to go with 34 saves, two shutouts and a 7-2 mark in 862 minutes of action while junior keeper Jamie Daly has a 0.99 GAA with 23 saves and a 2-2-2 mark in 544 minutes of action while. The duo has combined on five shutouts with the help of Cassel, Weiss, Peploe, senior defender Paige Kovacs, junior defender Norah Bruther and sophomore defender Ashley Lamoureux.
Scranton enters the match with 14-1-2 mark and a 7-0 slate in Landmark Conference action. Tuesday's other semifinal contest features Susquehanna University and The Catholic University of America. The winners of the two semifinal matches will meet at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, November 3 for the 2018 Landmark Conference title and an automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
