BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball team rallied back from a seven-point deficit early in the second half for a 71-56 victory over visiting The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds earned their sixth consecutive win.
How It Happened
- The Hounds opened the scoring with a three-pointer from junior guard Porter Kelly, a lay-up by junior forward Marquis Ratcliff and a free throw by Kelly for a 6-0 advantage. Graduate student guard Alex Dietz sank a three-pointer for a 9-3 edge at the 14:34 mark, and the Blue & Grey were up 15-10 midway through the first half on a lay-up by junior forward Liam Cummiskey
- The Royals knotted the score at 15-15 before junior guard Chad Kratzer hit a lay-up. However, Scranton scored five straight points to move ahead for the first time, and the Royals headed to the locker room with a 26-21 lead
- Scranton connected on the first basket of the second half for a 28-21 advantage before senior guard/forward Michael Leonardo hit a three-pointer. Moravian eventually tied the contest at 32-32 on a three-pointer from Kratzer at the 15:23 mark. The Royals moved back in front by three points, and the Blue & Grey tied the game for the third time at 40-40 on a three-pointer from Cummiskey. Scranton retook a three-point lead midway through the half
- Kelly drained a three-pointer at the 9:45 mark to knot the score at 43-43 and fuel a 16-4 run that had the Blue & Grey up 56-47 with 5:47 to go on a jumper from Kelly. Moravian stretched the advantage to double digits at 61-49 on a three-pointer by Kratzer with 3:40 remaining
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players in double figures led by Kelly with 22 points to go with two rebounds and two assists
- Kratzer finished with 12 points and five rebounds while Ratcliff had ten points, six rebounds, two blocked shots and a pair of steals
- Leonardo and Dietz both scored seven points with Leonardo adding five boards, three assists and two steals while Cummiskey had five points and three assists
- Junior guard Colin Farrell and sophomore guard Taylor Perlmutter each netted three points with Perlmutter recording five rebounds and four assists while sophomore guard George Cutler had two points
- The Hounds shot 23-for-59 from the field, 11-for-30 on three-pointers and 14-of-20 at the foul line
- The Blue & Grey forced the Royals into 24 turnovers while committing just ten turnovers
