Greyhounds Drop Non-Conference Match at No. 11 Christopher Newport University

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The Moravian University men's soccer squad dropped a non-conference match at No. 11 Christopher Newport University Saturday afternoon in a contest that saw all the scoring come in the final 16 minutes of action.

How It Happened

  • The match was scoreless through the first half and remained that way through the 74th minute
  • The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute on a shot inside the left post, and Christopher Newport made it 2-0 just two minutes later on a touch-in goal near the back post on a free kick
  • The Greyhounds cut the deficit in half in the 83rd minute when sophomore forward Ben Scary headed in a corner kick from graduate student midfielder Alec Aloia
  • The Hounds nearly earned a tie with junior defender Donald Gibbs ripped a shot with 21 seconds remaining that the Captains' goalie dove for and hit with his fingertips just past the post 

Inside the Numbers

  • Scary's goal was his first of the season and the second of his career while Aloia picked up his seventh career assist
  • Junior goalie Andrew Remias registered a career-high five saves in the contest
