Hounds Top Penn State Abington in Final Non-Conference Match of 2022

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's soccer squad scored a season-high four goals as the Hounds topped Penn State Abington, 4-1, in non-conference action under the lights on John Makuvek Field Tuesday evening in Moravian's final home game of 2022 and the squad's last non-conference contest of the season.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute as junior defender Alex Daniele knocked in a crossing pass from the left side by junior Zach Nicholas into the net after having his initial shot stopped but not controlled by the Lions keeper
  • Moravian pushed its edge to 2-0 in the 40th minute as senior midfielder Carson Snyder took a direct kick just outside the 18-yard box and put it into the upper left corner of the net
  • The Nittany Lions countered with just 10.3 second left in the first half to send the match to halftime at 2-1 for the Blue & Grey
  • The Greyhounds needed just 4:48 into the second half to push the lead back to two goals as senior midfielder Dave Steinbach collected a headed pass from senior defender Dan Apryasz and chipped it over the goal into the net for a 3-1 edge
  • Moravian pushed the advantage to 4-1 in 53rd minute as sophomore forward Ben Scary converted on a penalty kick into the left side of the net 

Inside the Numbers

  • Daniele's goal was the first of his Moravian career while Nicholas registered his first career helper
  • Snyder's marker was his fourth of the fall and the sixth of his career
  • Steinbach picked up his third goal of the season and eighth of his career while Apryasz earned his first assist of 2022 and his time at Moravian
  • Scary's goal was his fifth of the year including the third on a penalty kick, and Scary now was six career goals
  • Junior Christian Beebe made the start in goal, and he had one save in the opening half. Junior Andrew Remias played the second half with two saves
  • The Hounds finished the night with a 15-11 advantage in shots while the Nittany Lions had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks
