Greyhounds Win Second Straight Landmark Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University men's cross country squad repeated as Landmark Conference Champions as the Greyhounds won the 2022 meet hosted by Goucher College Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored 33 points to finish nine points ahead of The Catholic University of America and 28 points in front of Elizabethtown College, who the Hounds defeated on a tiebreaker for the 2021 title
  • Moravian has now won four Landmark Conference titles including championships in 2011, 2012 and 2021 in addition to 2022

Moravian Results

  • Fifth-year senior Shane Houghton finished first of the 81 runners to win the 2022 Landmark Conference title. Houghton, who was selected as the Runner of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team, had a winning 8,000-meter time of 26:10.3, just edging sophomore Owen Nahf, who was second in a time of 26:10.6 to garner All-Conference First Team accolades
  • Sophomore Josh Mangini was third in the race in 26:12.4 to receive Landmark All-Conference First Team honors while sophomore Nathan Hajel took ninth in a time of 26:24.9 to garner All-Conference Second Team accolades
  • Sophomore Geoffrey Kleinberg rounded out the top five for Moravian with an 18th place finish in a time of 27:12.5 while senior Liam Duffy was just back a spot in 27:12.8
  • Sophomore Jake Farrell finished 22nd in a time of 27:20.5 while junior Casey Frank took 26th in 27:55.7 and freshman Bryan Kerchner was one spot back in 27:57/7
  • Junior Brendon Ward placed 32nd with a time of 28:38.3 while senior Christian Jancsarics took 36th in 28:53.5. Freshman William Cooper was 46th with a time of 29:25.6 while freshman John Breslin took 58th in 30:06.0
  •  Rounding out the Moravian runners were junior Paul Petre in 60th with a time of 30:16.7, freshman Jackson Gaffney, who finished 67th in 30:52.7, freshman Joe Allegro in 71st with a time of 31:08.6 senior Elias Aviles, who placed 74th in 31:34.0, and sophomore Wyatt Poniktera in 75th with a time of 32:17.4
