Five Moravian Student-Athletes Named to College Sports Communicators Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University seniors Shane Houghton and Christian Jancsarics, juniors Josh Mangini and Brendon Ward and sophomore Geoffrey Kleinberg have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team for NCAA Division III schools.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®.

By making the All-District Team, the quintet is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CSC Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced Thursday, June 29.

The Greyhounds won the 2022 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Championship, and the squad was fourth in the 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships and third at the 2023 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Houghton, a computer science and user interface design major with a mathematics minor and a 3.87 grade-point average, was the 2022 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year while earning Landmark All-Conference First Team honors. He has three Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors in his career, and Houghton is a two-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honoree in the steeplechase and twice in cross country. He ran in the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country National Championships. Houghton was selected the 2022 Moravian Most Outstanding Senior Male Scholar-Athlete award winner and the 2022 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete. Houghton made Moravian's Dean's Honors List nine times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He is a 12-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and twice received the USTFCCCA Academic Award in cross country.

Jancsarics, a sports management major with a minor in psychology and a 3.54 grade-point average, has run distance races for the Greyhounds and scored in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2023 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships with an eighth-place finish. Jancsarics has made Moravian's Dean's Honors List three times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He is a nine-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Mangini, a healthcare management major with a 3.56 grade-point average, earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors last fall while also making the USTFCCCA All-Metro Region with a 16th place finish in the region. He finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run at the 2023 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships Mangini made Moravian's Dean's Honors List four times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He was a six-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and has received the USTFCCCA Academic Award once.

Ward, a history and archeology/anthropology major with a 3.78 grade-point average, scored points in both the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay at the 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships for the Greyhounds. Ward has made Moravian's Dean's Honors List six times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He is a six-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Kleinberg, a math and computer science major with a 4.00 grade-point average, earned points for Moravian in the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay at the 2023 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships and in the 4x800-meter relay in the 2023 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Outdoor Championships. He scored points in both the 800-meter run and 4x400-meter relay during the 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships, and Kleinberg was 18th in the 2022 Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships. He made the Landmark All-Conference First Team in the distance medley relays indoors in 2022. Kleinberg has made Moravian's Dean's Honors List three fourth times, and he is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.
