Moravian Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Inductees; Team Honorees & Herbstman Award Winner

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Kelly Applegate '07; Caitlin Corrigan Boyer '09; Brendan Close '12; Kaitie Kramer-Bicknell '00 and Gary Zack '12 make up the class of 2023 that will be inducted into the Moravian Athletic Hall of Fame. The 1998 and 1999 women's volleyball teams and the 2007 and 2008 women's soccer squads will also be inducted on Friday, September 22 in Johnston Hall as part of Moravian's Homecoming Weekend. Patricia Billie Miller '77 will receive the Robert Martin Herbstman Award.

Kelly Applegate, who graduated in 2007, had an outstanding career on the basketball court where she was the 2006 Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and Kodak Honorable Mention All-American. A two-time All-Conference player, Applegate finished her career with 1,529 points and 694 rebounds.

Caitlin Corrigan Boyer, who completed her degree in 2009, was a standout on the soccer pitch as a goalie, helping the program to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Corrigan Boyer was a three-time All-Conference selection and had career marks of 51 victories, 34 shutouts, 317 saves, a .817 save percentage and a 0.78 goals-against average as a Greyhound.

Brendan Close, a 2012 Moravian graduate, competed on the baseball team during his career with the Greyhounds. During his four-year career, Close was an All-American, an All-Region Pitcher of the Year, a two-time Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year and four-time Landmark All-Conference selection. He completed his career with school records of 30 wins, 268.1 innings pitched, 285 strikeouts and eight shutouts.

Kaitie Kramer-Bicknell, a 2000 Moravian graduate, was a four-time All-Middle Atlantic Conference honoree on the volleyball court while helping the Greyhounds to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Kramer set the school records for assists with 4,325 and service aces with 205 during her career with the Greyhounds.

Gary Zack, who graduated in 2012, was a standout on the men's outdoor track & field teams for four years, winning the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship in the javelin. Zack competed at the NCAA meet all four years and was also the NCAA runner-up in 2012. He still holds Moravian's javelin record at 69.05 meters (225-6).

The 1998 women's volleyball squad had a 27-7 overall record, tying the program record for victories at the time, and the Hounds were the runner-up in the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament and played in the NCAA Division III Tournament while the 1999 women's volleyball team posted a 26-8 record, played in the MAC Championship match again and received a third straight NCAA Division III Tournament berth, earning the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.

The 2007 women's soccer team had a 15-6-1 record on the year while playing in the inaugural Landmark Conference Tournament and reaching the NCAA Division III Tournament while the 2008 women's soccer squad posted a record of 14-6-2 on its way to capturing the program's first-ever conference title, winning the Landmark Conference Championship. The Greyhounds also earned an NCAA Division III Tournament berth for the third time in four years in 2008.

Patricia Billie Miller '77 will receive the Robert Martin Herbstman Award which recognizes an alumnus or alumna whose qualities of teamwork, leadership, and selflessness exemplify the spirit of Moravian University athletics. Billie Miller was a member of the early women's volleyball teams at Moravian.
