Five Greyhounds Honored as College Sports Communicators Men’s At-Large Academic All-District

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University golf student-athlete senior Andrew Hozza and men's lacrosse student-athletes graduate student Connor James, senior Jack Bakey and sophomores Steven Salica and Kyle Weiss have been honored on the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team for NCAA Division III schools.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®. The at-large program honors student-athletes in the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling for men.

By making the All-District Team, the quintet is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CSC Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced Wednesday, June 21.

The Greyhound golf program finished in a tie for third at the 2023 Landmark Conference Championships. This spring, Moravian's men's lacrosse program had a 7-8 record while going 3-4 in Landmark Conference action.

Hozza, a math/English major with a mid-level education certification and a 3.82 grade-point average, earned his first career postseason honor after taking fourth of the 40 golfers with a 36-hole score of 152 at the Landmark Conference Championships for All-Conference First Team accolades. Hozza had a one-over par round of 71 in the second round Saturday, shooting 10 strokes better than his opening round to move into position for All-Conference honors. Hozza averaged 79.13 strokes per round over 16 rounds this spring including a season-low round of 70 and one medalist honor. He completed his golfing career with a career average of 80.61 over 42.5 rounds. When he isn't golfing, Hozza starts for the Moravian men's tennis team where he was 5-0 in singles action this year and 25-1 over his career. Hozza was selected the 2023 Moravian Most Outstanding Senior Male Athlete award winner. Hozza made Moravian's Dean's Honors List seven times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He is a six-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, three times for both men's golf and men's tennis.

James, who earned his degree in health sciences with a 3.81 grade-point average and is working towards his Doctor of Physical Therapy with a 4.00 grade-point average, made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team last year, and he broke the school record with 47 goals in 2022. He had 23 goals, seven assists and 16 ground balls this spring James saw action in 54 career matches with 38 starts, and he had 129 goals, which is second in program history, 29 assists, 90 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. His 158 points are fourth in the school's record book, and James had 22 man-up and four man-down goals in his career. James made Moravian's Dean's Honors List seven times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He is a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Bakey, a finance major with minors in accounting and management and a 3.63 grade-point average, moved into the starting line-up this season and had seven goals to go with 17 ground balls and three caused turnovers. He finished his career with 13 goals, two assists, 43 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in 40 matches with 11 starts. Bakey made Moravian's Dean's Honors List eight times as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He was a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Salica, a nursing major with a 3.60 grade-point average, contributed seven goals to go along with an assist and a pair of ground balls in 2023. He has 21 goals, two assists, 11 ground balls and two caused turnovers in 22 career matches with one start. Salica has made Moravian's Dean's Honors List four times, and he will be a member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll this year.

Weiss, an education major with a minor in sociology and a 3.62 grade-point average, recorded 32 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers this spring, and he has 39 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in 25 career matches with one start. Weiss makes his second CSC Academic All-District Team of the year after receiving the honor last fall as part of the Moravian men's soccer squad. In two seasons on the soccer pitch, Weiss has one assist in 31 career matches with 18 starts, and he was selected to the 2022 Landmark All-Conference Second Team. Weiss has made Moravian's Dean's Honors List three times times, and he will be a member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll this year after making the 2022 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll with men's soccer.
