24 Hounds Earn Landmark Track & Field All-Conference Honors

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University men’s and women’s indoor track & field squad have had a total of 24 student-athletes honored by the Landmark Conference for their performances at the 2023 Landmark Indoor Championships last weekend hosted by Susquehanna University.

The men’s team, which finished four at the conference meet, had 11 student-athletes earn 13 All-Conference honors while the women’s squad, which was third in the championships, had 13 student-athletes garner 15 All-Conference selections.

The men’s program had five student-athlete earn Landmark All-Conference First Team including graduate student Tim King, who captured the 35-pount weight throw and shot put titles. The Greyhounds’ 4,000-meter distance medley relay squad of juniors Casey Frank and Paul Petre and freshmen Kevin Hess and Bryan Kerchner also won their race.

Moravian had six All-Conference Second Team honorees on the men’s side with senior Shane Houghton finishing as the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Nathan Hajel taking second in the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Trevor Gray placing second in the 60-meter dash and the 4x200-meter relay team of Gray, juniors Jared Santos and Matt Shea and sophomore Owen Sabastro finishing second.

The women had nine student-athletes garner All-Conference First Team accolades for winning conference titles including junior Lexi Groff in the high jump for a second straight year. The Greyhounds’ 4x200-meter relay squad of seniors Rachel Byrne and Helen Davis and sophomores Abby Giamoni and Racquel Ramey won their race while the 4,000-meter distance medley relay squad of sophomore Amber Poniktera and Lexi Rushatz and freshmen Shai Knight and Kate Rice also took first place.

Byrne and Knight also earned All-Conference Second Team honors for a runner-up finish with sophomore Zoey Bronson and freshman Elena Bocchetti in the 4x400-meter relay. Freshman Margie Rayne took second in the 20-pound weight throw while freshman Tara Smula was also the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run to garner Second Team accolades.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4 at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships at the New York City Armory.
