Kayla Yoegel Chosen as NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

Kayla Yoegel '22 selected as Moravian's 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Kayla Yoegel, a recent 2022 Moravian University graduate from the women's basketball program, has been selected as the Greyhounds' 2022 nominee for the NCAA Woman of Year Award.

Rooted in Title IX and directed by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics, the NCAA Woman of the Year program celebrates the accomplishments of female college athletes across all three NCAA divisions. Over 220,000 women are competing in college sports, and the NCAA received 577 nominations for this prestigious award in the 32nd year of the program including 202 from Division III.

Eligible female student-athletes are nominated by their member school. Each conference office then reviews the nominations from its core member schools (and sponsored sports) and submits its conference nominee(s) to the NCAA. Then, in September, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee identifies the Top 30 – 10 from each division – and from there selects three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics then selects the winner from the nine finalists.

Member schools are urged to submit two nominations if at least one of the nominees is a student-athlete of color or an international student-athlete. The nomination form is completed by the member school and student-athlete and submitted via the NCAA Program Hub.

All conference-level nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee. The selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees in each division. From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the three finalists in each division. Finally, the members of the Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Yoegel, who was selected to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in both 2022 and 2021, led the Greyhounds in scoring at 14.2 points per game this past winter, and she had a team-high 24 blocked shots to go along with 25 assists, 21 steals, 21 three-pointers and an average of 5.1 rebounds per contest. Yoegel, who is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll, had 695 points, 319 rebounds, 75 blocked shots, 66 assists, 61 steals and 50 three-pointers in 78 career games for Moravian that included 61 starts. She was also named to the 2022 Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization Team of the Year.
