TEMPE, Ariz. --- Five student-athletes from the Moravian University men's and women's tennis teams have been selected as 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes and the men's squad also received the ITA All-Academic Team award.

Juniors Andrew Hozza and Justin Szaro and freshman Wyatt Marshall from the men's team and juniors Julianne Cassady and Cristina Merone from the women's squad were named ITA Scholar-Athletes with Hozza, Szaro and Merone all received the honor for a third straight year and Cassady was honored for a second consecutive year.

For a student-athlete to ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, they must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA, earn a varsity letter and be enrolled for at least two semesters. Thousands of student-athletes across all divisions were honored with ITA Scholar-Athlete status and hundreds of teams earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for maintaining over at least a 3.20 GPA. All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2021 and spring 2022).

Hozza, who also plays on the Greyhounds' golf team, was 7-0 in singles action and 4-1 doubles while Szaro recorded a 4-9 mark in singles and a 7-6 slate in doubles. Marshall posted a 7-2 singles slate and a 6-6 doubles mark while earning Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors in doubles.

"I'm extremely happy for our men's team to be honored with both team and individual ITA academic awards," stated Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. "They are true student-athletes and were able to stay focused and excel in the classroom and compete on the courts."

Merone recorded a perfect singles record in 2021-22 with a 16-0 slate, and she was 18-0 in doubles action as well while Cassady had a 7-10 mark at first singles and was 12-6 in doubles action, earning Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors in both singles and doubles.

"I'm very proud of Christina and Julianne for being recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes," commented Freitas. "They put in a ton of work and effort both in the classroom and on the court."
