Women's lacrosse celebrates a goal

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing to look back at its 2022-23 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 9 highlight – the women's lacrosse squad rallying from a two-goal, third quarter deficit to defeat The University of Scranton for the first time in program history.

The match was a back-and-forth contest through the first half with the Hounds leading early at 2-1 while the Royals held a 7-6 edge at the intermission. In the third quarter, Scranton lead 9-7 with under four minutes on the clock when sophomore midfielder Alex Cherenson and Madi Dippel scored to knot the contest at 9-9 with Dippel's goal coming with just 14 seconds left in the period.

Graduate student attack Brittany Bill found the net just 54 seconds into the fourth quarter to give Moravian the lead for good, and the Hounds went on to score four more goals with Cherenson making the lead 14-9 with 6:21 to play. Dippel sealed the victory and netted the final tally with just two seconds remaining on the clock.

Bill led the Blue & Grey with seven goals in the match while Cherenson netted a hat trick and Dippel tallied two goals. Senior goalie Rylee Soltis made 11 saves in the victory.

Entering the contest, Moravian has played Scranton 18 times including 14 times in the regular season and four more meetings in the Landmark Conference Semifinals with the Royals winning each contest.
