Five Greyhounds and Both Track & Field Programs Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Moravian University had five student-athletes named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Athletes, and both the men's and women's track & field squads were honored as All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA for the 2022 season.

Moravian's women's selections were junior Crystal Robinson, sophomore Vicky Donovan and freshmen Abby Giamoni and Racquel Ramey and the men's honoree was graduate student Shane Mastro. To earn All-Academic individual honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have competed in the 2022 NCAA Outdoor National Championships or have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List. This year, there were 713 women and 537 men that were honored, including the five Greyhounds.

Robinson, who was named the Landmark Conference Female Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, after winning the 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay, placing second in the 100-meter dash and helping the 4x400-meter relay take third in the crucial final race to win the title. She was also a USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region honoree. Robinson, along with Giamoni and Ramey, were members of the quartet of Greyhounds to run in the 4x100-meter relay, which won the Landmark Conference Championship and Robinson and company also finished third in the 4x400-meter run.

Donovan's season-best throw of 38.09 meters (125-0) came at the Coach P Invitational on April 23 which landed her All-Metro Region honors and qualified for AARTFC. She also had a third-place finish in the javelin at the Landmark Conference Championship with a throw of 32.26 meters (105-10).

Giamoni and Ramey were members of the 4x100-meter relay squad that won the Landmark title and competed at the AARTFC. Giamoni also finished second in the 200-meter dash at the Landmark Championship meet to earn herself a spot on the All-Conference Second Team, All-Metro Region honors and qualified for AARTFC.

Mastro, who was selected as the Landmark Conference Male Field Athlete of the Year, after winning the shot put for the third straight championship as well as the discus, and he was second in the hammer throw. A USTFCCCA All-Region honoree, Mastro set a school record on May 14 with a toss of 16.11 meters (53-10.25) at the Princeton University Elite Invitational, which was the 15th qualifying spot and is also the second farthest throw in the Metro Region this season. He then placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 15.16 meters (49-9) at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championship hosted by the Greyhounds which would send him to his first-ever NCAA appearance. Mastro finished fifth in his flight and 15th overall in the shot put with a toss of 15.42 meters (50-7.25) on his first throw of the meet, his third-best career mark and tied for the fifth-longest throw in school history.

The women's team maintained a 3.423 cumulative GPA after the fall semester and was one of more than 213 women's teams to earn All-Academic honors while the men's cumulative GPA of 3.244 was one of 155 programs to be recognized. To be considered an All-Academic Team, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or greater.
