Top 10 Stories of 2021-22 - #7 Brown & Holmes Earn CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing its look back at its 2021-22 athletic campaign. The next entry in our second countdown of the summer – the Top 10 Stories of the Year selected by the athletic administration – is our No. 7 highlight – women's soccer student-athlete Alexa Brown and baseball player Derek Homes being named to the Academic All-America Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America in their sports.

Senior defender Alexa Brown was selected to the CoSIDA NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Third Team. Brown was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2021, and she contributed a goal, which was a game-winning goal, and two assists. Brown also helped the Greyhounds record eight shutouts last fall. In her career, Brown started 42 of 43 matches, and she scored three goals and added two assists with two of the three goals winning contests. Defensively, Brown helped the Greyhounds post 20 shutouts in her four seasons. Off the field, Brown graduated with a 4.00 GPA as a health sciences major with a focus on pre-physical therapy. She has been named to Moravian's Dean's Honors List eight times during her collegiate career, and Brown is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and was selected as the 2022 Moravian Blue & Grey Senior Female Scholar-Athlete award winner.

Junior catcher/designated hitter Derek Holmes earned a spot on the CoSIDA NCAA Division III Baseball Second Team. This spring, Holmes, who garnered spots on both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com All-Region 5 First Teams as a catcher, set the Moravian single season hit record with 69 hits and set the school mark for single season batting average at .460. He contributed 98 total bases, 37 RBIs, 34 runs, 15 doubles, a triple and four home runs in 150 at-bats, and Holmes also had a .529 on-base percentage and a .653 slugging percentage while playing all 40 games with 38 starts for the Hounds with 20 games as a designated hitter, 19 as a catcher and one as a pinch hitter. Holmes contributed 93 putouts and 19 assists as a catcher with 11 runners caught stealing before an injury left him as a designated hitter for the rest of 2022.  Holmes, who was honored on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in both 2022 and 2021, became the 38th player in program history to reach 100 career hits, and he has 102 hits, 56 RBIs, 53 runs, 18 doubles, two triples and five home runs in 254 at-bats over 74 career games with one season to play. Off the diamond, Holmes has a 3.85 GPA as an accounting major and mathematics minor. He has been named to Moravian's Dean's Honors List six times during his collegiate career, and he is a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
