Greyhounds Fall at King's as Picciuto Nets 8 Points

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- Freshman midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto scored eight points to lead the Moravian College women's lacrosse team but the Greyhounds ended up falling to host King's College, 17-13, in non-conference action Wednesday.

Picciuto had five goals and three assists for her eight points, tied for the third-most in a single match in school history as the Greyhounds restart the varsity program after five seasons on the club level, and Picciuto added four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Freshman attack Jessica Pisano and freshman midfielder Alexia Johnston each netted hat tricks for Moravian while freshman midfielder Eileen Rolwood had a goal and an assist. Sophomore attack Kyleigh McGovern scored the Hounds' other goal while freshman attack Elizabeth Charache added an assist.

Freshman goalie Kelley Gavin had five saves while freshman defender Melissa Webber recorded a team-high six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rolwood added a team-leading five draw controls and three ground balls while Johnston had four draw controls. Freshman defender Jacqueline LaCava had a team-high three caused turnovers.

Picciuto scored just 55 seconds into the match, and she completed a hat trick 12 and a half minutes into action. Picciuto's three goals and two by Johnston had Moravian leading 5-3 at the 17:31 mark of the first half. However, King's scored five straight to take an 8-5 lead. The Greyhounds cut the deficit to one at halftime, 8-7.

The Blue and Grey were down 10-9 after Picciuto's final goal with 15:40 remaining before King's scored three straight to take control of the match.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 12 in a non-conference at Wilkes University starting at 1:00 p.m. after the squad heads to Florida for training during the first half of Spring Break next week.
