Picciuto Selected as 2016 ECAC DIII South Rookie of the Year

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College freshman attack Jillian Picciuto has been selected as the 2016 ECAC Division III South Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year while also earning a spot on the ECAC DIII South All-Star First Team.

Picciuto, who helped the Greyhounds to a 6-10 overall record this spring in the program's first varsity season since 2010, finished the year with school records of 64 goals, 38 assists (which is also the Moravian career record) and 102 points. She was honored by the ECAC four times during the regular season, three times as DIII South Athlete of the Week and once as Rookie of the Week.

"I'm beyond proud of what Jillian has accomplished throughout her breakout freshman season," commented Head Coach Kristen Schuster. "Time and time again she's proven herself to be an asset on both sides of the field. Between her natural talent, passion for the game and strong character, she's become a true leader for our team. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to coach an athlete like Jillian who puts the success of her program above all else. I'm excited to see what the future hold for Jillian as we work to reach her full potential."

Picciuto is the first Greyhound women's lacrosse player to reach the century mark in scoring in a single season, and she was the only freshman in the nation to finish in the top 10 in scoring, tying for eighth with 102 points and finishing fourth in points per match at 6.38. Picciuto also recorded 74 draw controls, 33 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers in her debut season for the Hounds.
