Women's Lacrosse Falls in Non-Conference Action at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 non-conference match at Goucher College Saturday afternoon in a battle of future conference opponents.

The Greyhounds, who restarted their varsity program this spring after five years as a club sport are 6-6 on the year after the loss to the Gophers. Moravian will rejoin the Landmark Conference as a full member in 2017 after playing the 2016 campaign as an independent.

Freshman midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto led Moravian with four goals while freshman attack Kyleigh Miller added two goals. Freshman midfielder Eileen Rolwood contributed a goal and an assist while freshman attack Dalia Aguilar and sophomore midfielder Alexis Kersten each had a goal. Freshman attack Jessica Pisano also had an assist.

Freshman goalie Kelley Gavin made eight saves in the match, and she added two ground balls while freshman defender Melissa Webber led the team with three ground balls. Picciuto had three draw controls and a pair of ground balls while Rolwood added three draw controls and three ground balls. Freshman midfielder/attack Alexia Johnston paced the Greyhounds with four draw controls while junior defender Maria Maka had a pair of caused turnovers.

The Gophers scored the first four goals of the match before Moravian got on the scoreboard on a goal by Aguliar with 14:16 remaining in the first half. Goucher held a 6-3 lead at the intermission. The Greyhounds finished strong scoring five of the final six goals in the last 4:29 of action.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 20 in a non-conference match at The United States Merchant Marine Academy beginning at 5:30 p.m.
