Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Match to Drew

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit to pull within one goal; however, the Greyhounds ended dropping a 17-12 non-conference match to visiting Drew University at Rocco Calvo Field Saturday.

"We fought hard today," stated Head Coach Kristen Schuster. "This team refuses to give up and plays until the final whistle. We have some things to work on when we have the ball but overall these Greyhounds left it all on the field, and as their coach I'm proud of their performance."

Freshman midfielder Jillian Picciuto led the Hounds with five goals and an assist as she became the third player in school history to reach 50 goals in a season. Picciuto is second all-time with 54 goals this spring, and she has school records of 34 assists and 88 total points. Sophomore midfielder Alexis Kersten had a hat trick while freshman midfielder Eileen Rolwood added a goal and two assists.

Freshmen attacks Dalia Aguilar, Kyleigh Miller and Jessica Pisano each scored one goal.

Moravian freshman goalie Kelley Gavin made 14 saves in the match while Rolwood led the Hounds with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers to go with four draw controls. Picciuto had five draw controls while freshman defender Melissa Webber scooped up five ground balls. Senior defender Caroline McCarthy had three caused turnovers while Kersten and Aguilar each had three draw controls.

The Blue and Grey fell behind 2-0 before Pisano scored at the 24:26 mark. The Rangers would pull ahead 8-3 with 11:03 before the intermission but Kersten and Picciuto scored to cut the deficit to 8-5 at halftime.

Picciuto and Rolwood scored in the first five minutes of the second half to cut the Drew lead to 8-7 but the Rangers scored the next seven goals to build a 15-7 with 11:44 to play. The Hounds scored five of the final seven goals in the match.

Moravian, now 6-8 on the year, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 27 when he squad hosts Neumann University in a non-conference contest at Rocco Calvo Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
