Moravian Drops Non-Conference Match at U.S. Merchant Marine

KING'S POINT, N.Y. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse squad dropped a 20-13 non-conference match at The United States Merchant Marine Academy Wednesday evening.

Freshman midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto led Moravian with six goals and three assists for nine points as she increased her school record total for assists to 33 and broke the school record for points in a season with 82. Picutto also added four draw controls. Freshman midfielder Eileen Rolwood added three goals and an assist, and Rolwood tied the single match record for the second time this season with 10 draw controls to give her a school record 68 draw controls this spring. She also had five ground balls and three caused turnovers in the contest.

Freshmen attack Kyleigh Miller, midfielder/attack Alexia Johnston and attack Jessica Pisano and sophomore midfielder Alexis Kersten each scored once for Moravian. Kersten also contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers while Johnston had two ground balls.

Freshman goalie Kelley Gavin  had four saves while playing the first 35 minutes of the match while sophomore keeper Elisabeth Pontius also made four saves in 25 minutes of action. Freshman defender Jacqueline LaCava had two draw controls and two ground balls while freshman defender Melissa Webber added two ground balls and two caused turnovers and senior defender Caroline McCarthy had two draw controls.

Moravian scored the first three goals of the contest on tallies from Picciuto, Johnston and Rolwood in the first 2:25 of the match. However, the Mariners scored the next 11 goals and led 11-4 at halftime. Picciuto needed just eight seconds to score in the second half but the Hounds were unable to get closer than six goals after the intermission.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 23 when the squad hosts Drew University in a non-conference match at Rocco Calvo Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. as Moravian begins a three-
