Hounds' Comeback Just Short in Loss to SUNY Purchase

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team netted four of the final six goals but the Greyhounds comeback attempt fell short in an 11-10 non-conference loss to SUNY Purchase College Thursday afternoon at Rocco Calvo Field.

Freshman midfielder Eileen Rolwood led the Hounds with three goals while freshman midfielder Alexia Johnston and freshman midfielder/defender Dalia Aguilar each netted two goals. Freshmen attack Jessica Pisano and defender Jacqueline LaCava and sophomore attack Kyleigh McGovern scored once for the Blue and Grey's other goals.

Freshman goalie Kelley Gavin made 10 saves in the match and added two ground balls while Rolwood led the team with five ground balls, five draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Pisano, junior defender Maria Maka and sophomore midfielder Alexis Kersten each had three ground balls while freshman midfielder Kyleigh Miller added three draw controls and a pair of ground balls.

Moravian jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with Pisano scoring on a free position shot just over a minute into action and LaCava finding the cage just over two minutes later. The Hounds led 3-1 after Johnston's first goal before Purchase netted four straight goals for a 5-3 lead. Rolwood scored in the final minute of the first half to cut the halftime deficit to 5-4, and she netted another tally 1:14 into the second half to tie the match.

After Johnston tied the contest again at 6-6, the Panthers scored three straight for a 9-6 lead 15:04 still remaining. Aguilar and Rolwood made it a one-goal match with 14:23 remaining before Purchase scored again. Aguliar cut it back to one with 10:15 to play, and McGovern hit on a free position shot with 2:05 left on the clock to make it 11-10 but the Greyhounds were unable to get the equalizer.

"It was a tough loss to take today," commented Head Coach Kristen Schuster. "Our young team is starting to find its rhythm and I'm confident the wins will come. We have another challenging game coming up on Saturday and we'll be focusing on correcting what we can to prepare for it."

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, March 19 when the squad hosts The University of Scranton in a non-conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field.
