Greyhounds Tip-Off 2016-17 Slate at Muhlenberg Tuesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team begins its 2016-17 season on Tuesday, November 15 with a non-conference game at rival Muhlenberg College tipping off at 6:00 p.m. in Allentown.

Greyhounds' Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk enters her 30th season with the challenge of replacing three starters including two 1,000-point scorers from last year's NCAA Division III Tournament squad. Spirk does return seven players from the team that was 20-8 a year ago including senior forward Camille McPherson, who made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2015. McPherson led the squad in scoring last season at 14.3 points per game, and she added 145 rebounds, 38 three-pointers, 38 assists and 13 steals last year.

Also returning to the starting line-up for Spirk is senior guard Morgan Calabrese. Last winter Calabrese averaged 8.1 points per contest with 75 rebounds, 54 assists, 16 steals and 28 three-pointers. Junior forward Trista Cunningham will move into the starting line-up after being the first player off of the bench in her first two years with the program. Cunningham contributed 144 points, 64 rebounds, 12 blocks, 11 assists and seven steals last winter.

The trio of Calabrese, Cunningham and McPherson will be team captains this year for the Greyhounds. The group also shot 84.6 percent from the foul line last season, making 165-of-195 free throws.

Spirk has 10 new players in the program this season with five freshmen and five other newcomers.
