Wright Named to Landmark Conference Women's Basketball All-Decade Team

TOWSON, Md. --- The 2016-17 season marks the 10th year anniversary for the Landmark Conference. To help celebrate, the Landmark is featuring individuals that have stood out over the past 10 years.

Athletes that were named All-Conference First Team a minimum of two times, and/or were named Landmark Player of the Year, during their career were nominated automatically, and each team had the opportunity to nominate additional individuals for consideration. The All-Decade team was selected by the membership and is being announced prior to the conference championship.

Alexis Wright from the class of 2015 was selected to the Women's Basketball All-Decade Team.

Wright completed her career at Moravian by helping the squad to a 20-8 record and a first-round win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2015-16 as a graduate student. She set the school record in rebounds with 1,272 boards, and Wright climbed her way to third in scoring with 1,711 points, second in blocked shots with 277 and sixth in steals with 213 while playing in a school record 121 games. Wright also holds the career records in field goals attempted at 1,650 and career free throws attempted at 648, and she is third in field goals made with 643 and free throws made with 413.

Wright garnered a number of postseason accolades in her career including spots on the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team in 2013 and Second Team in 2015 and 2016, the ECAC DIII South All-Star First Team in 2016 and 2013 and the Second Team in 2015, the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016, the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year in 2012 and the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Wright also made the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-America Team in 2013 and was named to the Women's DIII News Honorable Mention All-American in both 2016 and 2013.

"Alexis had an outstanding career and is most deserving of the Landmark All Decade team," commented 30th-year Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Despite a severe knee injury, Alexis maintained a high level of play upon her return to action after a year of rehab. She was a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the court. Alexis was often double teamed on the offensive end, yet still found a way to score. And on the defensive end, her ability to block shots, change shots and rebound the ball forced opponents to change their game plan when playing against Alexis.

"As good as a player that Alexis was, she was and is a better person," continued Spirk. "Currently on our coaching staff, Alexis is passionate about the game in general and Moravian basketball specifically. This award is a credit to all her teammates that she played with and a direct reflection on all her hard work and dedication to the sport."
