McPherson & Capuano Receive ECAC DIII Metro Player & Rookie of the Week Honors

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College senior forward Camille McPherson has been named the first Corvias ECAC Division III Metro Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2016-17 season while freshman guard Maddie Capuano earned the initial Rookie of the Week accolade for their performance last week.

The duo helped the Greyhounds post a 2-0 record and win the title of the 14th Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Classic in Johnston Hall last Friday and Saturday.

McPherson, who earned her third Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week honor of the season on Tuesday, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after averaging 25.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She had 23 points, five boards and two assists in an 83-74 victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley. McPherson added 28 points, seven rebounds and three assists during an 88-78 win versus Lebanon Valley College in the championship game. She connected on 18-of-32 shot from the floor (56.3 percent) and 13-of-14 free throw attempts (92.9 percent) during the two games.

"Congratulations to Camille on achieving another award, but while she continues to be recognized on an individual basis, Camille would be the first one to recognize her teammates as well," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Camille has worked extremely hard to obtain success this year individually, but more importantly she is a terrific leader for this young team."

Capuano, honored for the first time in her collegiate career by the ECAC, earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after averaging 19.0 points per game. Against Penn State Lehigh Valley, Capuano scored a career-high 20 points (in the first three quarters) to go with four assists and four steals. She finished the tournament with 18 points, four rebounds and six steals in the win versus Lebanon Valley. For the week, Capuano had 38 points, five rebounds, six assists, 10 steals and one blocked shot. She shot 13-of-21 from the floor (61.9 percent), 6-of-10 on three-pointers and 6-of-9 at the foul line.

"Maddie had a terrific weekend and deserves to be recognized for her efforts," noted Spirk. "Maddie is not a natural point guard but has really embraced her role and works hard on both ends to improve every day. Success will continue for her if she continues her work ethic at practice."

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, January 7 in a Landmark Conference game at Susquehanna University tipping off at 2:00 p.m.
