Greyhounds Run Past Cabrini in Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team had three players in double figures led by senior forward Camille McPherson, who had her second straight double-double, as the Greyhounds defeated Cabrini University, 75-59, in the opening round of the Swarthmore College Tip-Off Tournament Friday evening.

McPherson tossed in 27 points including 23 in the first half, and she pulled down 12 rebounds to go with a pair of assists. Senior guard Morgan Calabrese and freshman guard Maddie Capuano each tossed in 15 points with Calabrese dishing out six assists and grabbing two boards, and Capuano adding four rebounds.

Junior forward Trista Cunningham contributed six points and four rebounds while junior guard Taylor Freeman had five points. Junior forward Ciara Stewart added four points and three rebounds for Moravian while freshman guard Karlie Brogan added three points and seven boards. Junior forward Jen Cella grabbed three rebounds while sophomore forward Ariana Caiati had a pair of boards.

Moravian opened the scoring with Brogan's first collegiate basket just 35 second into action. After Cabrini tied the game at 2-2, Cunningham connected on two free throws to give the Hounds the lead for good. Stewart capped a 9-0 run with a lay-up to push the Blue and Grey's lead to 11-2 with 3:02 to play in the opening quarter, and Moravian lead 18-9 after ten minutes of action on a late three-pointer by Capuano.

The Greyhounds led by as many as 11 points in the second quarter before Cabrini cut the lead down to five. Calabrese hit a lay-up with seven seconds left before the intermission, and Capuano made two free throws with one tick on the clock to send Moravian to the locker room with a 39-30 advantage.

The Blue and Grey pushed their lead into double digits midway through the third quarter and led 52-38 after 30 minutes of action as Capuano scored in the final minute for the third consecutive quarter of the game. The Greyhounds' lead would reach 20 points, 67-47, on a three-pointer by Calabrese with 5:15 left to play.

Moravian is scheduled to play Geneva College in the second round of the Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m.
