Hounds Open 2018 Campaign with 18-8 Win at King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team snapped a 5-5 tie with 11 straight goals as the Greyhounds went on to earn an 18-8 victory over host King's College in a non-conference match to begin the 2018 season Wednesday.

Sophomore midfielder Liz Bill led the Hounds with four goals and two assists to go with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while freshman attack Meaghan McMullan netted four goals and contributed eight draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in her first collegiate match. Junior midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto had three goals and three assists for Moravian while freshman attack Breanna Federico had two goals and an assist.

Freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie scored a pair of goals and had two ground balls while freshman attack Danielle Sullivan had a goal and an assist. Junior attack Jessica Pisano and sophomore midfielder Allie Brembt each scored a goal while sophomore defender Allie Fisher added an assist and four ground balls.

Junior goalie Kelley Gavin had six saves and a pair of ground balls in 47 minutes of action for the Hounds while freshman goalie Courtney Heist added two saves in the final 13 minutes of the contest.

The Greyhounds needed just 13 seconds to get on the scoreboard as McMullan scored off of the opening draw of the match. The squads would trade goals back-and-forth until 9:51 left in the first half when McMullan scored to give the Blue and Grey a 7-5 advantage. Moravian added four more goals including a buzzer beater by Bill to lead 11-5 after 30 minutes of action.

The Blue and Grey opened the second half with five more goals to stretch its advantage to 16-5 with seventeen and a half minutes remaining.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, March 3 in a non-conference match at FDU-Florham beginning at 1:00 p.m.
