Hounds Top Goucher on Senior Day to End 2018 Regular Season with 11 Wins

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team posted a 21-5 victory over Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon on John Makuvek Field to close out the 2018 regular season.

The Greyhounds, who were also celebrating Senior Day, finish the regular season at 11-4 overall and 5-2 in Landmark Conference action. The Hounds will make their first-ever trip to the Landmark Conference Tournament next week.

"Today's Senior Day was the sendoff we had hoped for with all three field players scoring and Elisabeth coming up big between the pipes," noted Head Coach Kristen Nicholson. "It's always bittersweet to say goodbye to a class and these young women are the true trailblazer for our program. We wish them continued success in their lives beyond Moravian."

Junior attack Jillian Picciuto led Moravian with eight goals and three assists to go along with 11 draw controls and two ground balls while sophomore midfielder Liz Bill netted four goals to set the new single season record with 70 goals on the year, and Bill added three assists. Senior attack Kyleigh McGovern contributed two goals and two assists while freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie had a pair of goals and two draw controls.

Senior midfielder Alexis Kersten and senior midfielder Kristen Baxter each scored a goal in their final home game while junior attack Jessica Pisano, freshman attack Danielle Sullivan and freshman attack Breanna Federico also tallied one goal apiece. Federico and sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher each scooped up three ground balls while junior defender Melissa Webber had two ground balls.

Senior Elisabeth Pontius made her first start of the season in goal and had three saves in the first half of the contest. Freshman Courtney Heist had a pair of saves in 19 minutes of action while junior Kelley Gavin made one save in 11 minutes.

Picciuto opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the match, and she had a hat trick in the first 3:32. Picciuto scored six times in the first 13:18, and Bill added three goals and McGovern one as Moravian lead 10-0. The Blue and Grey would head to the intermission with a 16-1 advantage.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, May 2 when the squad heads to The University of Scranton for a Landmark Conference Semifinal contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field in Scranton. Moravian enters the tournament as the third seed while the Royals are the second seed.
