FARMINGDALE, N.Y. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team won its fourth straight match and third consecutive five-set contest as the Greyhounds defeated Farmingdale State (N.Y.) College, 3-2, in non-conference action on the road Tuesday evening.
The Greyhounds took the first set 25-14 before the Rams answered with a 25-18 win in the second set. The Blue and Grey bounced back to take the third set, 25-20, but Farmingdale State would get the fourth set, 25-21. Moravian earned a 15-12 win in the fifth set to earn the victory.
Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher led the Hounds with 26 kills, which is tied for the fourth most in a five-set match in school history, and her 75 attempts in the contest are the most in any match in the Greyhound record books. Zacher now has 3,925 attack attempts in her career, the most in program history, and she is eighth all-time with 1,182 kills. Zacher added eight digs to move into seventh in the Moravian record book with 1,298 digs, and she also moved into tenth in school history with 141 service aces after three against the Rams.
Junior middle blocker Erin Tiger contributed 16 kills in the win for Moravian while freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick added ten kills and six digs. Freshman middle blocker Madi Anslow contributed seven kills and a team-high five blocks while junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer had six kills and a pair of blocks. Freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic also had two blocks to go with a pair of digs.
Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman controlled the Greyhounds offense with 55 assists to go along with 19 digs. Senior libero Jean Markovic led Moravian with 35 digs, tied for the fifth most in a five-set match in the Hounds' record book, to go along with seven assists, and she is second all-time with 1,866 digs. Junior defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin contributed eight digs while senior defensive specialist Ashton Galasso had seven digs and sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had four digs.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, September 21 when the squad hosts Wilkes University in a non-conference match starting at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
