Markovic Reaches 2,000 Career Digs in Landmark Conference Quad Match in Johnston Hall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team hosted a Landmark Conference quad match in Johnston Hall Saturday with the Greyhounds dropping both of their contests.

The Hounds opening match of the day saw the squad fall to The University of Scranton, 25-12, 25-10, 25-18. Senior libero Jean Markovic registered 18 digs in the match to become the second player in school history to reach 2,000 career digs with 2,016 after the contest. Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher had a team high eight kills to go with five digs while junior middle hitter Erin Tiger added five kills and sophomore outside hitter Brooke Kusmider contributed four kills and four digs.

Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Moravian offense with 19 assists to go with a pair of digs while freshman middle hitter Madi Anslow had a pair of kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro and junior defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin each had two digs against the Royals.

Moravian opened its second match of the day and the final contest of the match with a 25-18 set win over Susquehanna University. However, the River Hawks would take the next three sets 25-5, 25-14, 25-20 to defeat the Hounds. Zacher led the Blue and Grey with 17 kills and nine digs as Zacher increased her career total to 1,322 kills, just two shy of moving into fifth place in school history. Tiger contributed six kills and three digs while Anslow had five kills and three blocks against Susquehanna.

Kauffman added 25 assists, four digs and a pair of kills while Markovic had another 17 digs to raise her career mark to 2,033, trailing just Jesse Krasley '13 school-record of 2,502. Markovic had three assists in the final match of the day while Kusmider added three kills and a pair of digs. Szaro and Devlin each had five digs for Moravian while junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer had three kills and freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic added a pair of blocks. Freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick had three digs for the Hounds.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, October 17 in a non-conference match at Montclair State University beginning at 7:00 p.m.
