Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Contest to No. 9 Scranton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad dropped a 64-42 decision to visiting No. 9 ranked The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening in Johnston Hall.

How It Happened

  • The Royals scored the opening points of the contest while junior forward Brielle Guarente connected on a jumper on the Hounds' first possession to knot the score at 2-2. Scranton scored seven straight points until sophomore guard Juliana Vassallo drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 9-5. However, the Royals went on to lead 20-6 after ten minutes of action
  • The second quarter saw Scranton outscore the Blue & Grey by just two points at 12-10 as the Royals headed into the intermission with a 32-16 edge
  • Scranton pushed its lead out to 56-24 after 30 minutes of play while Moravian outscored the Royals 18-8 over the final ten minutes of action 

Inside the Numbers

  • Freshman guard/forward Lizzie Lustig led the Hounds with ten points to go with a pair of rebounds while Guarente contributed eight points and a pair of blocked shots
  • Vassallo and freshman center Grace Steffen both netted seven points with Vassallo adding two rebounds and a pair of assists and Steffen grabbing seven boards
  • Sophomore guard Jayda Cartagena scored four points while freshman guard Emma Altmire had three points
  • Senior forward Sam Osorio pulled down six rebounds to go with two points and two blocked shots while freshman guard Yarian Fernandez had one point
  • Junior guard Mikayla Anderson recorded four rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocked shots while senior guard Reganne Flannery and freshman forward Bellisima Lew both had two rebounds
  • The Greyhounds shot 13-for-51 from the field, 6-for-16 beyond the three-point line and 10-for-14 at the foul line in the contest. The six made three-pointers are a season high for the Blue & Grey
