Greyhounds Fall at No. 8 Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad fell to No. 8 The University of Scranton, 65-47, in Landmark Conference action on the road Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Royals scored the first four points of the contest before freshman center Grace Steffen sank a free throw to get the Hounds on the board. Moravian trailed by just a point at 5-4 after freshman guard Lizzie Lustig hit a trio of free throws. The Blue & Grey were down 9-6 after a jumper from junior forward Brielle Guarenete. However, Scranton finished the quarter with a 9-1 run to lead 18-7 after ten minutes of action
  • The Royals led for the entire second quarter with Moravian getting within seven at 26-19 on a jumper by Steffen at the 2:43 mark, but the Royals took a 35-19 advantage to the locker room at the half
  • Moravian outscored Scranton 19-14 in the third quarter while the Royals had a 14-9 edge over the final ten minutes

Inside the Numbers

  • Lustig led Moravian with 11 points to go with a pair of rebounds while Steffen contributed nine points and four boards
  • Guarente registered seven points, three rebounds and three assists while senior guard Reganne Flannery added seven points and sophomore guard Juliana Vassallo also had seven points with three boards
  • Sophomore guard Jayda Cartagena netted four points with a pair of rebounds and two assists while senior forward Sam Osorio had a team-high eight rebounds to go with two points and a pair of steals. Osorio is now 12th in program history with 640 career boards, passing Alesha Marcks '16 in the all-time list
  • The Hounds were 13-for-45 from the field, 5-for-12 on three-pointers and 16-for-21 at the foul line
