Moravian Drops Landmark Conference Contest at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad dropped a 66-58 decision to host Drew University in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers opened the scoring before a jumper and a free throw from senior forward Sam Osorio had the Hounds up 3-2. The Blue & Grey also had a 7-6 edge after a lay-up by freshman center Grace Steffen at the 2:12 mark. Drew finished the period with an 8-3 run to lead 14-9 after ten minutes of action
  • The Greyhounds scored the first four points of the second quarter with Osorio hitting a free throw and sophomore guard Juliana Vassallo draining a three-pointer to get Moravian back within a point. The Blue & Grey were down 19-17 after two free throws from Osorio, but Drew took a 26-20 edge to the locker room
  • The Hounds would not get any closer than six points in the third quarter, trailing 30-24, after a jumper from junior forward Brielle Guarente with just under seven minutes on the clock. The Rangers ran the lead out to 16 points before a three-point play by freshman guard/forward Lizzie Lustig cut the deficit to 44-31 after 30 minutes of play
  • Moravian tried to cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, getting within six points at 53-47 on an Osorio free throw with just over two minutes remaining. The teams combined for 17 points in the final minute as the Hounds looked to close the gap

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had a pair of players in double figures led by Guarente, who netted a game-high 18 points, all in the second half, to tie her career high and to go with four rebounds and four assists
  • Osorio recorded 15 points, five boards and a pair of steals while sophomore guard Jayda Cartagena tossed in nine points to go with three steals and two rebounds
  • Lustig contributed eight points and four rebounds while Vassallo had five points and three rebounds
  • Steffen registered 11 rebounds to go with three points while senior guard Reganne Flannery added three rebounds and three assists and junior guard Mikayla Anderson grabbed three boards
  • The Greyhounds shot 21-for-64 from the field, 2-for-17 on three-pointers and 14-for-22 at the foul line, and the Blue & Grey did have a 39-36 edge on the boards including 16-7 on the offensive glass
