Greyhounds Fall to Elizabethtown in Landmark Conference Tournament First Round

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The sixth seeded Moravian University women's basketball squad fell to third seed and host Elizabethtown College, 87-57, in the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament First Round Tuesday evening to close out the 2023-24 season.

How It Happened

  • The Blue Jays netted the first six points of the game before sophomore guard Jayda Cartagena hit a jumper to get the Greyhounds on the scoreboard. Another jumper from Cartagena had the Blue & Grey down 8-4 before an 11-2 run from Elizabethtown pushed the Blue Jays' advantage to 19-6. Elizabethtown held a 24-12 edge after ten minutes of action
  • The Hounds began the second quarter with a 5-2 run to pull within 26-17 on a lay-up by freshman guard/forward Lizzie Lustig. However, the Blue Jays headed to the locker room with a 41-26 halftime advantage
  • Moravian closed the gap to ten points at 45-35 early in the third quarter after a three-point play from senior forward Sam Osorio. Elizabethtown stretched the edge to lead 61-44 after 30 minutes of play
  • The Blue Jays outscored Moravian 26-13 in the fourth quarter 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures with Osorio netting a game-high 19 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of steals. Osorio finishes her four seasons with 873 points and 669 rebounds, which is 11th in program history
  • Freshman center Grace Steffen recorded her fourth double-double of the winter with 15 points and 12 rebounds to go with three steals while Cartagena finished with 13 points to tie her career-high, and she had two boards and a pair of steals
  • Junior forward Brielle Guarente added six points while Lustig contributed four points and two assists
  • The Greyhounds connected on 18-of-54 field goal attempts, 1-of-11 three-pointers and 20-of-24 free throws in the contest
  • The Blue & Grey were playing in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the 15th time, and the squad reached the postseason for the 33rd year in the 37-year tenure of Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk
