BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse squad is set to start the its 2020 campaign on Saturday, February 22 with a non-conference match at Haverford College.
Fifth-year Head Coach Kristen Nicholson has 16 student-athletes back from last year's team that was 12-6 on the year and played in the Landmark Conference Semifinals for the second straight season.
Nicholson brings back her four of her top five scorers in 2020 led by senior attack Liz Bill, who was the 2019 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and an All-Conference First Team honoree after contributing 87 goals and 12 assists for 99 points to go with 114 draw controls, 33 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Meaghan McMullan, who was selected to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team last spring, had 101 points on 72 goals and 29 assists to go along with 48 draw controls, 28 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Strohl was on the All-Conference Second Team a year ago after 47 points on 42 goals and five assists, 91 draw controls, 31 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers while junior attack Danielle Sullivan had 42 points on 29 goals and 13 assists with 12 ground balls.
The Greyhounds have depth in the attack and midfield. Sophomore attack/midfielder Kelsey Moore had seven goals, an assist and 13 ground balls last season while junior attack Breanna Federico added four goals and an assist and sophomore attack Eliza Fantazzi had four goals.
Junior defender Olivia Clearie earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team last spring after 47 ground balls, 47 draw controls, 32 caused turnovers, a goal and an assist and will anchor the defense in 2020. Sophomore defender Meghan Moore had 16 ground balls a year ago while senior defender Allie Brembt returns for her final season after 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in 2019. Sophomore defender Samantha Cherenson contributed 14 ground balls and seven caused turnovers while sophomore midfielder/defender Jamie Bader had 17 ground balls and seven caused turnovers last spring. Junior Maecy Chlebowski returns after missing most of last season with an injury while junior defender Gabi Brandon and sophomore Eirean Perst add depth to the defense.
The Hounds return junior Courtney Heist in goal. Last spring, Heist was 4-1 with a 12.07 goals-against average in 353 minutes of action while recording 51 saves and adding four ground balls.
Coach Nicholson has added eight student-athletes to the roster as Blue and Grey look to battle for a third consecutive Landmark Conference Tournament berth.
