Moravian Holds on For Win Over Arcadia in 2020 Home Opener on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-1 lead early in the second half and held on for a 10-6 non-conference win over visiting Arcadia University in the Greyhounds' 2020 home opener on John Makuvek Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Hounds, now 1-1 on the year, had five different players score led by junior midfielder Meaghan McMullan, who had three goals and two assists to go along with five draw controls, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior attack Liz Bill added a hat trick on three eight-meter shots while junior attack Danielle Sullivan had two goals. Junior attack Breanna Federico added a goal and an assist while sophomore midfielder Lindsey Strohl contributed a goal, two ground balls, a pair of caused turnovers and five draw controls to become the ninth player in school history to reach 100 career draw controls.

Freshman attack Megan Donnelly had a pair of assists to go with two ground balls while sophomore defender Samantha Cherenson had four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Junior defender Olivia Clearie contributed four ground balls and three caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Emily Hoskin and junior defender Maecy Chlebowski each had a pair of ground balls.

Freshman goalie Brelyn Friedman played the first 49 minutes of the contest and made six saves to earn the victory while junior goalie Courtney Heist had three saves in 11 minutes.

Strohl opened the scoring just over four minutes into the contest, and goals from Federico, McMullan and Bill had the Blue and Grey up 4-0 with just over 18 minutes left in the first half. After the Knights scored, McMullan and Bill tallied again with McMullan's goal in the final minute sent Moravian to the intermission with a 6-1 edge.

Bill finished off her hat trick 2:19 into the second half for the 7-1 advantage. When McMullan netted her third goal of the afternoon, the Hounds had a 10-3 lead with just over 14 minutes to play before Arcadia scored the final three goals of the match.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, February 28 in a non-conference match at FDU-Florham beginning at 4:00 p.m.
