Moravian Falls at Haverford College in 2020 Season Opener

HAVERFORD, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse squad dropped a 20-15 non-conference match at Haverford College Saturday afternoon to begin the 2020 season.

Senior attack Liz Bill led the Greyhounds with seven goals, an assist and 11 draw controls while junior midfielder Meaghan McMullan added four goals, an assist and a pair of ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Strohl netted two goals to go along with four draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while freshman attack Megan Donnelly and sophomore midfielder Kelsey Moore each scored one goal with Donnelly scooping up two ground balls. Junior attack Breanna Federico and freshman attack Lizzie Macioci each had one assist in the contest.

Freshman goalie Rylee Soltis recorded 17 saves and added seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in her first collegiate match while junior defender Olivia Clearie had a team-high eight ground balls to go with five caused turnovers. Sophomore defender Samantha Cherenson contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior defender Maecy Chlebowski scooped up a pair of ground balls.

Haverford scored the first four goals of the match before Donnelly netted her first collegiate goal for the Greyhounds. The Fords made it a 5-1 match before two goals from Bill and one by Stohl pulled the Blue and Grey within a goal at 5-4 with 20:16 still to play in the first half. Haverford eventually pushed the lead up to five goals before Bill netted her fourth goal of the match with 32 seconds left as Moravian trailed 12-8 at halftime.

Moore, McMullan and Strohl netted goals to start the second half as the Hounds pulled within a goal at 12-11 with just under 25 minutes to play. The Fords answered back with four straight goals and six of the next seven tallies in the match to build an 18-12 advantage with 10:42 to go.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, February 26 when the squad hosts Arcadia University in a non-conference match on John Makuvek Field at 4:00 p.m. for the squad's 2020 home opener.
