Cooper & Tuorto Selected as Men's Tennis Captains

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Junior Lewis Cooper and sophomore Matt Tuorto have been named team captains for the 2013-14 Moravian College Men's Tennis squad.

Cooper is playing his third year for the Greyhounds and has been a solid performer for Moravian his first two seasons in both singles and doubles including a 16-13 career singles mark. In 2012-13, Cooper and his partner Libario Obeid were Landmark All-Conference Second Team selections after posting a 10-5 mark at second doubles. Cooper also is a member of the Moravian men's soccer team and is an outstanding student.  For the past two years, he has been an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete, and in 2013, he was a Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll selection.

"Lewis is a tenacious competitor with a tremendous amount of athletic ability," stated third-year Head Coach Art Smith. "He is respected and liked by his team members and is a natural leader. Through his hard work and desire during practice and matches he inspires his teammates daily. Lewis did an outstanding job as a co-captain his sophomore year, by leading a squad made up of almost all freshmen. Assistant Coach Bill Neal and I are confident he will do the same this season."

Tuorto had an immediate impact on the Greyhounds during his freshman year. He played number two singles during the fall and then moved to the number one singles position in the spring. Tuorto also played number one doubles the entire season, and along with his partner John Wylie, were named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in doubles after finishing 5-2 during the Landmark Conference season.

"In my opinion Matt is the ultimate team player," Smith said. "He works extremely hard daily at practice.  He also is a fierce competitor during match play. He is a very positive and enthusiastic team leader. By the high standards that he sets for himself both on and off the court, he is example for his teammates. Matt be a strong leader for this year's squad."

Moravian will begin the fall potion of its 2013-14 season on Sunday, September 8 when the squad competes in the Muhlenberg College Invitational.
