Men's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's team played a hard-fought Landmark Conference match at The University of Scranton Wednesday but the Greyhounds were unable to secure the victory, falling to the Royals, 5-4.

Scranton had a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches. Moravian had evened the match at 1-1 with an 8-6 victory by junior Lewis Cooper and freshman Mike Antonis at second doubles. The Greyhounds' top doubles tandem of sophomore Matt Tuorto and John Wylie would force a tie breaker in the their first doubles match before falling, 9-8 (10-8).

The two squads would split the singles matches with each team posting three victories. Wylie had a 6-1, 7-5 victory at second singles while Cooper posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles. Antonis needed a tiebreaker in his second set before winning in straight sets at fourth singles, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). Freshman Daniel Schmucker nearly pulled off a victory at sixth singles, falling 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 10 when the head to Allentown for a non-conference contest at rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 5:00 p.m.
