Men's Tennis Starts Spring with 9-0 Sweep of Baptist Bible

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2013-14 season with a 9-0 sweep of Baptist Bible College Wednesday in non-conference action at Birchwood Racquet Club.

The Greyhounds, now 2-1 on the year after a 1-1 mark last fall, opened the match with three wins in doubles action while dropping just one game. The first doubles duo of sophomores Matt Tuorto and John Wylie and the third doubles pair of sophomore C.J. Widdifield and freshman Giovanni Lombardi each posted 8-0 victories while junior Lewis Cooper and freshman Mike Antonis earned an 8-1 triumph.

In singles action, Moravian won four of the six matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores with Tuorto winning at second singles, Cooper at third singles in his first action of the year after missing the fall while playing soccer for the Greyhounds, Antonis at fifth singles and freshman Dan Schmucker at sixth singles. Wylie posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at first singles while Lombardi had a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Sunday, March 2 when the team opens its' four-match Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida with a match versus Ohio Northern University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
