Greyhounds Compete in Opening Day of Scranton Invitational

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team is finishing up the fall portion of its 2013-14 season this weekend at the two-day, non-team scoring University of Scranton Invitational.

Sophomore John Wylie earned a7-5, 6-1 win over Scranton's Matt Prendergast to open the quarterfinals of the A flight while freshman Mike Antonis fell to Steven Wilson from Wilkes University, 6-2, 6-1. Antonis also dropped an 8-2 decision to Stephen Brand of King's College in the consolation round.

In the B flight quarterfinals, freshman Giovanni Lombardi fell to Michael Kranz from Wilkes, 6-0, 6-3 while sophomore Matt Tuorto lost to Dominic Parfianowicz of Wilkes, 6-4, 6-2. Tuorto bounced back to defeat Kevin Murphy from Scranton, 8-3, in the consolation round while Lombardi posted a 9-8 (7-3) win over Brian Williams from Scranton.

The Greyhounds had three players in the C flight with freshman Alec Gerhart falling in the round of 32 and sophomore C.J. Widdifield and freshman Dan Schmucker dropping matches in the round of 16. Schmucker and Widdifield did win matches in the consolation round of the flight.

Moravian's top two doubles teams of Tuorto and Wylie and Antonis and Lombardi dropped their quarterfinal round matches in the A flight of doubles action while Schmucker and Widdifield fell in the quarterfinals of the B doubles flight.

The Greyhounds will complete their trip to the Scranton Invitational on Sunday with action starting at 9:00 a.m.
