Men’s Tennis Selected Third in Landmark Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – The Moravian College men's tennis team has been picked to finish third in the wide open 2014 Landmark Conference coaches preseason poll.

The Greyhounds earned 39 points in the preseason poll, coming in behind first-place The Catholic University of America (59) and Juniata College (41). Moravian comes in just two points behind Juniata, which received two of the eight first-place votes.

"I am not really surprised by this year's preseason ranking poll," said head coach Art Smith. "I feel that there are a number of teams capable of winning this year's Landmark Championship. If Moravian is able to compete with those teams, I will be very happy. I know our team is very young but our players feel confident that they can compete at a high level this season."

Smith's squad was ranked ahead of Drew University (4th) and Goucher College (6th), both of which received a single first-place vote in the poll. Moravian is one of two schools in the top six of the preseason poll to not receive a first-place vote.

The second through fifth rankings in the poll are separated by eight points.

The Greyhounds completed the fall season with a 1-1 record in non-conference dual matches, while also sending their young core of players to the Muhlenberg College Fall Classic and the University of Scranton Invitational.

Moravian is the first Landmark team to serve up the spring portion of the 2013-14 season when they travel to Baptist Bible College on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.

The Landmark Conference slate is scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 15 when Goucher comes to the Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
