Four Men's Tennis Players Named Landmark All-Conference

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior Lewis Cooper has been selected to the 2014 Landmark All-Conference Men's Tennis Second Team in singles, and he also made the Second Team in doubles along with sophomore Matt Tuorto and John Wylie and freshman Mike Antonis.

Cooper had a 10-6 record while playing third singles for the Greyhounds this spring, and he was 6-1 in Landmark action. Cooper has missed the fall portion of the season each year since he is also a starter at defender on the Moravian men's soccer squad.

"Lewis is a great player to coach," stated Head Coach Art Smith, a 1968 Moravian graduate and member of the school's Hall of Fame. "He is a hard worker with terrific footwork and court coverage, and a real tough competitor."

Cooper and Antonis combined for a 12-4 record at second doubles this spring, and the duo was a perfect 7-0 in the Landmark regular season. They also scored the team's only point in a 5-1 setback to top seed Juniata College in the Landmark Semifinals.

"Mike and Lewis had a great season," Smith said. "They always stay calm no matter what the score is, and they are very aggressive in their doubles play."

Tuorto and Wylie competed as Moravian's top doubles tandem this year, and the pair had an 11-8 record with a 4-3 slate in Landmark competition. Cooper, Tuorto and Wylie all made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in doubles last season as well.

"John and Matt really enjoy playing together, and their games complement one another," Smith commented on his top doubles team. "They are also very tough competitors."

Moravian completed the 2013-14 campaign with an 8-10 mark, and the squad was 4-3 in the Landmark regular season to clinch the fourth seed in the Landmark Tournament.
