Hounds Sweep Baptist Bible, 9-0, to Begin Spring Season

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2014-15 season with a 9-0 sweep of host Baptist Bible College Saturday in a match played at the Birchwood Racquet Club.

The Greyhounds, who are now 3-0 on the season, jumped out to a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles contests. Juniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie  had an 8-0 victory at first doubles while senior Lewis Cooper and sophomore Giovanni Lombardi posted an 8-1 win at second doubles. Sophomore Dan Schmucker  and freshman David Wilson added an 8-0 triumph at third doubles.

Moravian then captured all six singles matches in straight sets including four by 6-0, 6-0 finals including Tuorto at first singles, Schmucker in fourth singles, Lombardi at fifth singles and junior C.J. Widdifield in sixth singles. Wylie earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at second singles while Cooper added a 6-2, 6-0 win at third singles.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Sunday, March 8 when the squad opens its spring trip to Orlando, Florida with a non-conference match versus Wabash (Ind.) College.
