Cooper Named Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Lewis Cooper has been selected as the 2015 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Tennis.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the eight spring honorees are being announced last week and this week.

"This award is a tremendous tribute to Lewis Cooper and Moravian College. Over the past four years Lewis, as a member of the tennis team, has exemplified the true meaning of the term student-athlete," stated Head Coach Art Smith. "He has excelled on the tennis court, in the classroom, and as a member of the Moravian College community. It has been a pleasure to coach Lewis and I wish the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Cooper posted 17-7 mark in singles action this season, the third-most wins in a season at Moravian, and he was 15-5 at third singles this year. In doubles action with sophomore Giovanni Lombardi, the duo posted a 16-8 slate with a 13-7 mark at second doubles. Cooper, who was serving as captain for the second straight season, helped the Greyhounds to a 13-7 overall record, a berth in the Landmark Conference Semifinals and the inaugural ECAC Division III Outdoor Men's Tennis Championships in 2015.

Cooper finished his career with a 43-26 singles mark, and he was 45-25 in doubles action during his career, setting the school record for doubles wins. Cooper made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in singles in 2014 and in doubles in both 2014 and 2013.

Off the courts, Cooper graduated with a 3.94 GPA while majoring in mathematics and computer science. Cooper is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and a five-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection including twice as a member of the men's soccer program. Cooper played in 51 matches with the soccer team over threes seasons with four goals and two assists. He was selected as Moravian's Blue & Grey Senior Male Scholar-Athlete this past May.

When he wasn't competing or in class, Cooper was active around the Moravian campus. He was a student member of the Association for Computing Machinery while also being involved in a number of community service projects with the men's tennis program including working with Cops 'n Kids.
