Men's Tennis Earns Playoff Berth with Win Over Susquehanna

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day as they defeated Susquehanna University, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at Hoffman Courts to earn their second consecutive Landmark Conference playoff berth.

"Real good win for the men," commented Head Coach Art Smith. "We clinched a playoff spot for the Landmark Conference Championship and hope we get some momentum for the last two weeks of the season."

The Greyhounds started off with a 3-0 sweep in doubles action with senior Lewis Cooper and Giovanni Lombardi finishing first, 8-0 at second doubles. Sophomore Dan Schmucker and freshman David Wilson followed suit with another 8-0 victory at third doubles while juniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie rounded things out with a 8-0 win as well at first doubles.

Moravian then captured all six singles matches in straight sets including four by 6-0, 6-0 finals including Tuorto at first singles, Wylie at second singles, Schmucker in fourth singles, and junior C.J. Widdifield in sixth singles. Cooper added a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles becoming the seventh player to reach 40 career wins while Lombardi earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second singles.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Monday, April 20 when the squad hosts non-conference Muhlenberg College in a Matte Award match at Hoffman Courts at 4:30 p.m
