19 Moravian Student-Athletes Named to 2011 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll

MADISON, N.J. – The Landmark Conference has recognized 249 student-athletes by selecting them for the 2011 Fall Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll including 19 from Moravian College. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all fall student athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the fall season in good standing with their team. All eight Landmark Conference institutions placed at least 11 athletes on the Academic Honor Roll and all six fall Landmark sports were represented on the team.

The Landmark Fall All-Academic Team, which features two male and two female student-athletes from each Landmark institution will be released later this fall. In addition a Senior Scholar Athlete will be chosen for each Landmark sport.

Along with the Landmark Academic Honor Roll, six fall sport athletes earned spots on Capital One Academic All-District Teams, three women's soccer, two in men's soccer and one in volleyball.

The Landmark Conference is in its fifth season of competition and includes eight institutions covering the mid-Atlantic region. The Landmark crowned six team championships this fall, and sent six programs to either the NCAA or ECAC postseason as well as three individuals to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Moravian had student-athletes from all six of its fall teams that compete in the conference with the women's soccer team leading the way with six honorees. The field hockey program and the women's volleyball team each had four student-athletes each named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. The women's cross country team had three honorees while the men's cross country and men's soccer team each had one student-athlete named to the academic honor roll.

The women's soccer team posted a 6-11-2 record and earned a berth in the 2011 Landmark Conference Tournament, with three seniors on the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, midfielder Tara Alberse (New Providence, N.J./New Providence HS), defender Diana Feldmann (York, Pa./Central York HS) and midfielder Jenna Stickle (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough HS). Feldmann also earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.

Also making the Landmark Conference Honor Roll for the women's soccer team were juniors defender Eileen Black (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and goalkeeper Tori Korona (Easton, PA./Easton) and sophomore midfielder Rachael Hurley (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan HS). Black was also named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team.

The field hockey team finished 9-8, the second highest win total in a season had, and two seniors on the Landmark Conference Honor Roll in midfielders Erica Cernobyl (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff HS) and Selena Agnor (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley HS). Also making the honor roll were both goalkeepers, junior Catherine Gottlieb (Blackwood, N.J./Paul VI HS) and sophomore Andrea Eck (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua HS).

The women's volleyball team finished 23-13 while making it to the semifinals of the Landmark Conference and ECAC South Tournaments. Senior defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS) was named to the Landmark Conference Honor Roll along with juniors outside hitter Samantha Savite (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central HS) and middle blocker Jenny Wizeman (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton HS), and sophomore middle blocker Brittany O'Hara (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge HS). Savite was named an Honorable Mention All-American and Mid-Atlantic All-Region teams by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She also was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team.

The women's cross country team won the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship had two seniors named to the Landmark Conference Honor Roll, Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson West Lawn HS) and Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove HS). Junior Emma Pacheco (Drescher, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy) was also named to the Honor Roll. Rockwell won the Landmark Individual Championship to go with her Landmark All-Conference First Team honors and All-Region honors. Ruggiero also earned Landmark All-Conference First Team accolades.

The men's cross country team won the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship and had its top runner, senior Matthew Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley HS) named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. Lutzca was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team and the All-Region Team as well.

Junior midfielder Nicholas Hurff (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine Prep HS) of the men's soccer team was named to the 2011 Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.
