Grotyohann Nets Game-Winner Versus Scranton

The Moravian College field hockey team defeated conference rival The University of Scranton Wednesday afternoon at Betty Prince Field. Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann netted the game-winning goal for the Greyhounds.

Moravian got on the board just eight minutes into the game when junior forward Briana Van Buskirk shot from the right and classmate forward Tori Poliskiewicz lifted the shot so freshman forward Taylor Holly could tap it in for her first collegiate goal. The Royals would tie the game up in the 19th minute with a goal from freshman forward Alyssa Fania.

Scranton would open the second half with a goal by junior forward Gretchen Kempf off of a rebound shot to give the Royals a 2-1 lead. The Greyhounds would turn the momentum in their favor with three shots and saves in a row from Grotyohann before freshman forward Erica Worthington would set up Van Buskirk to net her third goal of the season in the 53rd minute.

Moravian would keep the pressure on Scranton until Grotyohann would score the game-winning goal off a rebound with just under three minutes to go in the game. The Greyhounds would hold onto the 3-2 lead till time expired.

Sophomore goalie Andrea Eck tallied six saves in the victory. Alexandria Marandino tallied one save in the first half for the Scranton, and Maria Begliomini had six saves in the second half.
The Royals held a 15-13 shot advantage and an edge in the penalty corners, 9-7.

The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, October 15 when they host Wesley College in non-conference action. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Betty Prince Field.
