Van Buskirk Has Career Day in Victory

The Moravian College field hockey squad defeated NCAA Division II Mercy College Tuesday afternoon, 4-0 at Betty Prince Field. Junior forward Briana Van Buskirk was involved in every scoring play for the Greyhounds, scoring three of the goals and assisting on the fourth goal.

Moravian jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead within the first ten minutes of play. Junior forward Tori Poliskiewicz netted her third goal of the season off a pass from Van Buskirk. Just three minutes later, freshman midfielder Catherine Duffin would pass to the front of the net and Van Buskirk would net her first goal of the game. The Greyhounds would add one more goal before the half ended when Poliskiewicz would send a pass across the box and Van Buskirk would knock it in for her second goal of the contest.

Moravian scored its fourth goal of the game when Duffin would send a long hit from the right side that Van Buskirk would tap in for the 12th hat-trick in school-history. Van Buskirk career-high seven points ties for the third most in a single match in program-history.

Sophomore goalie Andrea Eck and junior goalie Catherine Gottlieb would team up for the shutout. Eck tallied three saves in 55 minutes of work, while Gottlieb had three saves in 15 minutes of work.

Sophomore goalie Tracey Wandle for the Mavericks made 11 saves in the match.

The Greyhounds out-shot Mercy 31-8 and had the penalty corner advantage, 19-3.

Moravian returns to action Thursday, October 20th when they host Cedar Crest College in non-conference action. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Betty Prince Field.
